WHEEL BALANCING SPECIALISTS

WHAT IS WHEEL BALANCING?

Balancing the wheels on your car is essential for safety and getting the most out of your tyres, Making for a smoother ride and helping to minimise tyre wear.

Wheel balancing is critical as over time you will hit bumps and holes and drive along uneven road surfaces, both of which cause uneven treadwear. Aggressive driving and turning hard on corners can also have an effect.

After 5000 kilometres it’s recommended you get a wheel alignment service and tyre rebalancing. Checking your tyre pressure regularly is also beneficial. Even if you can’t always feel the uneasy vibrations, they still might be there. Tyre imbalances can generate excessive heat and wear on your tyres, leading to the need for replacement ones faster than expected.

Every tyre fitted to a wheel must be rebalanced so your vehicle doesn’t shake through the steering wheel while driving. For this process the wheel is taken off the vehicle and placed on a wheel balancing machine. The wheel is then spun for approximately 10-15 seconds to test if the wheel is balanced when it is rotating.

What else could be causing vibrations while I drive?

There are many possible causes for vibrations other than wheel balancing and alignment:

  • Brake wear
  • Suspension wear
  • Bent or warped wheels
  • Axle to wheel being incorrectly mounted
  • Engine component wear
  • Drivetrain wear
  • Wheel bearing wear
